Plastic Podcast Receives Webby Award Honorable Mention
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: The Plastic Podcast has received an Honorable Mention in the 2025 Webby Awards, recognized in the Podcast – Health, Science & Education category.
This recognition places The Plastic Podcast among the top science podcasts in the world. Each year, the Webbys receive thousands of submissions from creators and companies across the globe. Only five nominees and two honorees are selected per category. That our flagship podcast earned a spot on this list is both humbling and deeply affirming.
What This Means
The Webby Awards are often called “the Internet’s highest honor.” Judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the awards recognize excellence in digital content, including podcasts, journalism, video, and more. To be honored in a category that includes health, science, and education—especially at a time when science communication faces growing political headwinds—feels particularly meaningful.
When we launched The Plastic Podcast, we wanted to explore a topic often dismissed as niche or technical: the story of plastic. But this story is one of environmental justice, climate change, innovation, economics, and global health. It’s a story that touches nearly every corner of our lives, and we believed it deserved more attention, more clarity, and more humanity.
A Win for Science Communication
We see this Honorable Mention not just as a recognition of one podcast, but of the importance of science-informed storytelling. In an era where climate denial and misinformation are louder than ever, it’s never been more urgent to create space for facts, nuance, and the voices of those doing the work—researchers, scientists, and scholars—who are too often left out of public conversations.
To those researchers and guests who joined us on the show and generously shared their knowledge: thank you. This recognition belongs to you, too. We remain committed to amplifying your work and making it accessible to a global audience.
Looking Ahead
One year ago, The Plastic Podcast launched as our first production. Today, Pine Forest Media is a growing environmental audio company with listeners in 106 countries and an expanding portfolio of podcasts that sit at the intersection of science and society.
This milestone inspires us to keep going—creating, questioning, and building bridges between experts and the public. Thank you to our listeners, collaborators, and community for being part of this journey.
Onward,
—The Pine Forest Media Team
